Permian Basin, Texas- Though this is the time for spending money, some Texans might be getting some extra cash this year, and you might be one of them.

The slogan for the Texas State Unclaimed Property Office is "come and get it," and that's exactly what they want to you to do. They have unclaimed money that is owed to over 69,000 people right here in the basin.

Texas is currently holding over $2.2 billion of unclaimed property and wants to get rid of it, but you have to claim it in order to get that check. The process takes about 15 minutes online but could unlock the safe to your owed money.

"I think people should definitely check it out online and see if they have anything because you could be surprised with these large amounts that you could definitely be some cash out there for you to gain," said Brian Leonard, Account Executive, Investment Corporation of America.

All you have to do is go to unclaimed-money-finder.net to start your search. You can also go to claimittexas.org and type in your name and social security number. There you could discover business or private money from as far back as 20 years ago.

"We tell folks to check it often, it's your money, we're holding it for you. We're try to make this process as easy as possible so that folks can get this money back," R.J. DeSilva, Spokesperson, Texas Comptrollers Office.

This Sunday names of people who are owed money for 2010 will be published in the area's newspapers but you still have to go online to claim your cash.

The state has returned 163 million dollars this year already and it could come at a perfect time with the Christmas holiday just three weeks away.
